Let out the child in you with Altiyan Childs!

I love music and songs a lot and because I do, I just abhor artists who create covers that do not do justice to the song. I however, applaud artists who are able to do justice to the song and even take it to another level such as the one I am featuring today.

I discovered this artist after viewing parody videos from the blog http://razorbackwriteraus.wordpress.com/ and I was instantly taken by the sound of his voice so I googled him and so now I am an instant fan!

In one of his interviews, he said “the song is the boss; the song is the master” and that you have to let the song control you not the other way around. And I think that is the perfect way to approach any song, just feel it and let it take you. If you listen to the way he sings the songs, you just know he is doing the song justice! (But don’t just take my word for it, listen to his renditions…)

Here is a Wikipedia article:

Altijan Juric[2] (born 10 June 1975), best known by his stage name Altiyan Childs, is an Australian singer-songwriter.[3] He was the winner of the second series of The X Factor (Australia) in 2010, and subsequently signed with Sony Music Australia. His debut single “Somewhere in the World” reached the top-ten in Australia and New Zealand. Childs’ self-titled debut album peaked at number three on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified platinum. Childs parted ways with Sony in early 2012 and signed with independent label Oxygen Music Group. In March 2013 Oxygen Music Group announced Childs was no longer their client and he signed with Vibe Management for a short period. His second studio album Born Before the Sun is expected to be released in 2014. The first single “Girl” was released in March 2014.

1975–2008: Early life

Altiyan Childs was born Altjian Juric[4] in Mount Isa, Queensland but grew up in Sydney. His father is of Croatian descent and his mother is Serbian.[5] Childs and his sister, Altiyana, were named after their father’s sister Altijana, who was murdered at only two months of age.[6] At the age of 13, Childs had a high school band called Over the Top[4] and, less than two years after graduating from high school, he formed a band called Masonia with Daniel Rivers, Mo Bloomfield and Nathan Meryment.[4] The band had minor success in 2004 with their debut single “Simple”, which reached number 41 on the ARIA Singles Chart.[7] Masonia disbanded in 2008 and Childs decided to retire from music.

2010: The X Factor Australia

Childs auditioned for the second series of The X Factor (Australia) in 2010. Falling into the Over 25’s category, he was mentored by Irish singer Ronan Keating who selected him for the finals – a series of ten weekly live shows in which contestants are progressively eliminated by public vote. Keating had received criticism by the Australian public for sending Childs through, as he had forgotten his lyrics multiple times during the audition process.

Throughout the finals, however, Childs was praised continually from the judges, specifically for his performances of Bon Jovi‘s “Livin’ on a Prayer“, U2‘s “Beautiful Day“, “Eye of the Tiger“, “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon and also Bryan Adams‘ “Summer of ’69“. After week five’s performance show, Childs disappeared from rehearsals and visited a cave on the Sydney Northern beaches in a need to reconnect with “beautiful sadness”.[8] During a radio interview with 2Day FM, he said “It kind of hit me randomly at about 2 am that I had to reconnect with part of my sadness, it’s my secret power it’s what drives me through the song and ignites that part of me, it’s got to do with sadness, I needed to go back to somewhere where I felt an intimate romantic thing with an ancient memory and it worked”.[8]

Throughout the competition, Childs had never landed in the bottom two, and ended up progressing through to the final show with Sally Chatfield and Andrew Lawson. The grand final results show was held on 22 November 2010 and during the early stage of the show it was revealed that Lawson had received the fewest public votes and was automatically eliminated. Chatfield and Childs became the final two and after the public votes had been tallied it was announced that Childs was the winner.[9] As the winner, Childs received a recording contract with record label Sony Music Australia.[10]

Apparently, he went into a lot of controversies and had quit music because of the many run-ins with the law… If he did, it would be such a waste of talent.

Personally I guess all rock stars go through such “phases” in their lives, it can even be said that it comes with the territory! Music in itself is something like a drug to me, it takes me to my lowest lows and highest highs. If maybe you add all the trimmings of stardom and fame, it gets too much and somehow most artists are drawn to the darker side of things. (Thank goodness I am not a rockstar or famous! Hehehe)

Regardless, I think Altiyan is great and the music industry is very fortunate that X-factor discovered him!

Great article but don’t believe the media b.s. Altiyan has released 3 singles this year & his album of originals is expected to be released next year. You should check out his web (http://altiyanchilds.net/) & Facebook pages (https://www.facebook.com/altiyanchilds9?fref=ts).

Wow! That is definitely great to hear! And would have thought that after just discovering him, I wouldn’t be able to hear more of his music. Thank goodness that is not the case! Yey!
Thanks for sharing… I will add him to my Facebook too! 🙂

If you go to his web page be sure to click on the Music & Footage tabs, Footage includes studio sessions of songs to be included on the album. Songs released so far include “Girl”, “Celebrity” & “Water”. There are also lots of his live performances of his original songs on YouTube. “Headlines” & “Celebrity won AIMVAs. 🙂

Thankyou for this wonderful blog. I love it!!! However I disagree about the statement concerning ‘run in’s with the law’. I agree with every word you have said about how talented Altiyan is, but in actual fact the only “run in” was being booked after driving with a minimal amount after smoking a joint. Not good, but hardly earth shattering. Most of his bad publicity has been driven by a biased media. Also at no point has Altiyan quit music. It is sad how the media has been manipulated to blacken HIS name, but he does have a wonderful new album of original songs about to come out called ‘Born Before the Sun’……it is stunning. I heard it at a listening party…….the man is a BRILLIANT songwriter. I hope people forget the crap they have been fed, and just see the extraordinary talent instead. Thankyou for letting people know about our AMAZING ALTIYAN. Here is his latest single #Water: itunes.apple.com/au/album/water-single/id948435609 …

You would be the second person to point out that it was all just “negative publicity” and boy am I relieved of that definitely! I really love his voice and the passion that he brings into the song is amazing! I’m just sad that I didn’t discover him earlier but nonetheless, still happy I discovered him. After all, better late than never, right?
I am going to watch out for his new album! Thanks for your reading my blog and posting your comment! 🙂
